Another Hero of the Freedom Movement : Jeremy Hammond.
Au mois de juillet 2011, le FBI a procédé à une vague d’arrestations de hackers proches du Collectif Anonymous. Des arrestations rendues possibles grâce à la trahison de Sabu ou Hector Xavier Monsegur à l’état civil. Ce New-yorkais de 28 ans a récolté pendant plusieurs mois des informations au profit du FBI.
Arrêté le 7 juin par les autorités américaines, Sabu plaide coupable le 15 août pour douze chefs d’inculpation. Le FBI remplace son ordinateur portable par un autre et Sabu dénonce sans vergogne ses camarades hackers. Résultat, des dizaines d’arrestations dans le monde entier. On ignore combien de personnes il a pu faire arrêter.
Jeremy Hammond, alias « Anarchaos », est l’une des victimes de Sabu. Il risque 20 ans de prison. Développeur web, Jeremy Hammond est accusé d’avoir participé à l’attaque en décembre 2011 contre la société américaine privée de renseignement et d’analyse stratégique, Strategic Forecasting Inc (Stratfor). Plus de cinq millions d’e-mails dérobés sur les serveurs de l’entreprise de renseignement « Stratfor » ont été donnés à Wikileaks pour analyse et diffusion. En février, WikiLeaks a publié The Global Intelligence Files, levant le voile sur le monde opaque et rentable des agences privées du renseignement.

While the anarchist, antiwar and information freedom movements focus their attention - rightly so - on Bradley Manning’s torture and detention for exposing U.S. war crimes, let’s also spare some attention for another hero : Jeremy Hammond. Hammond is allegedly the main hacker behind last December’s LulzSec hack of Stratfor, a quasi-private corporate intelligence and strategic analysis firm with close ties to the national security state. As someone who used to regularly read their analysis (helpfully « pirated » and distributed by a subscriber on an email list I frequented), I can testify to its quality.
Stratfor, although firmly on the side of the bad guys, delivers brutally frank and realistic assessments of the strategic situation for the American national security community and for transnational corporations in need of amoral and honest situational analysis of the countries they’re planning to bleed, rape and pillage.
A genuinely conscious web developer, Jeremy Hammond is accused of using his computer savvy to attack conservative groups and State operators. He is being charged with providing Wikileaks the documents for their latest Stratfor release.
